How the Solar Manufacturing and Installation Industries Work Together

The solar panel manufacturing and installation industries are growing rapidly around the world, driven by the increasing demand for clean and affordable energy. According to a report by the U.S. Department of Energy1, solar manufacturing refers to the fabrication and assembly of materials across the solar value chain, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, inverters, wiring, and racking structures. Solar installation refers to the process of mounting and connecting solar systems on rooftops, ground-mounted arrays, or other structures.
The solar panel manufacturing and installation industries are working together to improve the efficiency, reliability, and affordability of solar energy systems. Some of the ways they are collaborating are:
- Developing new technologies and materials that can reduce the cost and increase the performance of solar panels, such as perovskite cells, bifacial modules, and thin-film technologies.
- Adopting innovative manufacturing processes and equipment that can enhance the quality and scalability of solar panel production, such as automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
- Expanding the domestic supply chain and workforce for solar panel manufacturing and installation, especially in emerging markets like India, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
- Creating standards and certifications for solar panel quality, safety, and performance, as well as training and accreditation programs for solar installers.

- Q CELLS2 is a South Korean company that manufactures mono- and multi-crystalline silicon PV modules. It also offers residential and commercial PV solutions, including installation, financing, monitoring, and maintenance services.
- Solar4America2 is a U.S.-based company that manufactures PV modules using heterojunction technology (HJT), which combines crystalline silicon and amorphous silicon layers. It also operates as a solar installer for residential and commercial customers in California.
