This book goes over each component of a solar system. Itโs up to date and explains many technical aspects – choosing proper wire size, fusing and how each component REALLY works. The blueprints at the end really give a good visual and explanation of how all the components come together.

This book is full of information that you can use to setup solar power.

…but more of an explanation of all the parts and parameters of a solar system. Disappointed in no wiring gauge needs for length of run & use…

So some good information. Not really any up to date info, in my opinion with a 2022 copyright date, on the newer hybrid systems. Allot of technical info on solar cells, wiring, batteries, etc, but most of the info as far as completed or integrated home systems is not there or minimal. For example, one of the biggest concerns a homeowner might have is how to actually hook up a solar system into the existing power company breaker box……transfer switch ? sub panel critical load panel? or direct existing panel hook up.

Book is a destilate of basics for home handyman who really wants to do little basic photovoltaic system and has never seen a screwdriver, don’t know what is multimeter and has no idea how electricity is made from light… For technician who works with electronics everyday can be little like “syllabary for an undergraduate”

A good practical book to learn basics about the solar system components, how to design and plan a new system, and how to calculate the rating of components you will need. It gives some advice on what is good and what is not, without advertising any specific product. I wish it had more examples of real life systems with more specific examples electrical diagrams: a 100W system, a 500W system, a 1000W system… with more exact detail of how the connections are made (buses, circuit breakers, AWG of the wires and connectors). Maybe it can have an online site with more examples and pictures of professionally built systems. Just as a suggestion. I recommend this book.

I am reading this to have a general idea of solar power. I almost zoned out as soon as I saw the diagrams and formulas. But don’t be put out and intimidated because he is really adept at explaining everything in laymanโs terms. He supplemented the book with pdf available at his website.

It covers the basics, but didnโt really help me, but i guess its because Iโm hands on type of learner. I also do not understand electrical all that well, but thatโs just me.
