It is a mistake to think anyone outside yourself will be there to help you – not the government – not friends – not charities – you should (I believe) make sure you are as prepared as possible considering your resources and situation to be able to provide for yourself first (with others being only a possible secondary source) whether its water or anything else in life.There are so many subjects covered, this book is, of course, helpful for planning for the unknown future, and also can be beneficial to our daily activities now (think camping/off-grid living/temporary electrical outages/ecological concerns/etc.).It’s a book to begin immediate planning/preparation with as well as a book to guide one’s mindset in any difficult situation. I became amazed (and learned much) at the impressive attention to detail the author gives every topic. There were subjects in this book I never guessed would be in it – and I benefited greatly because of it.Well-researched (glancing at the extensive bibliography at the end was no surprise after having read this book and discovered how detailed it was), I am mindful of how much time this book must have taken to write and how much time it consequently can save the conscientious individual interested in learning.I am grateful the author cared enough to write such a valuable book, and I highly recommend it to all!

This is a great book, that is easy to read, and filled with a vast knowledge of the ends and outs of solar ownership. It starts with the basic need to know information, moves onto how and where to get started, requirements, cost and workload. The entire vision of solar installation is wrapped up within a well described story of the background and experiences of the author. I felt I truly gained more knowledge, than I had before, about solar energy. Also, I came away feeling as if I could pick up the phone and call a new friend, not to mention an added closeness to the family.Thank you for the chance to read your book, gain a part of your knowledge and sharing with us all your story.

The decision to go solar is a big one. This guide goes over all the basics of home, RV and boat solar. Topics include solar panel types, battery types, system design, and more. References are included in the back of the book. The author even explains how to calculate your system size and energy needs. I could have used a few more examples showing the math. The examples in the book were difficult for me to follow. I enjoyed the author’s sense of humor which made the book entertaining. I wish I had this guide before I did solar. It would have saved me a lot of time.

This book is a very comprehensive guide of information to consider before you build with solar panels. The author covers financial benefits, area weather, installation options, battery storage systems, hiring installers & labor costs. He covers basic installation steps to do it yourself, including the tools needed, inspections, permits and approvals from municipalities. He also covers how to hire an expert installer and warranties. Choosing on-grid vs off-grid vs hybrid systems. How to estimate costs. He even covers boats and RVs. I would not want to start a solar panel project with first reading this book. Highly recommend.

Another grand slam home run by Nash! Well written, extremely well thought out and logical. Combined with his historical research and his wit, this is an interesting educational read. While many texts on solar are dry and monotonous, Nash has cleverly woven real life stories from all over the world that impact our fuel needs, reasons for and reasons against our need to use alternative energy along with the knowledge of how-to. A must read for anyone considering solar, whether in an urban setting or totally off grid. This is one book that everyone should own and read! It’s a keeper!

As like all of Jonathan’s books, there is so much useful information. He does a great deal of research so that we do not have to or if we do, he gives us a great place to start. Some of the information was a bit too technical for me to understand but that is because I am not very tech savvy. But still a great book to add to my collection. Contains great information.

Surprisingly, I found valuable information in the book to help me with that purchase. Overall, this book is good for people wanting to learn more about home solar energy. This is definitely the way of the future, and as this book points out, the price has come down to the point where it makes a lot of sense.
