How to know if the solar panel charger is working?

In full sunlight, the solar panel shows a red light. Connect the battery, and turn green. If there are no lights, check the polarity.
Can I charge a battery that is almost dead?

It is a trickle charger that keeps the voltage from dropping or recharging the battery, but it is not a fast charger and cannot charge a dead battery. Please use the AC charger to fully charge the battery before using the solar panel.

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger pick-up truck that sits in our driveway. I use it for projects around the house – hauling brush, building supplies, garden supplies, etc. so it often sits for weeks without being started. Often, in the winter, we have temperatures around 0° F or lower (I live in Minnesota). Since the battery sits without use it slowly discharges and requires a jump to start on cold days. I can jump start it but I would prefer not to do so on a below zero day. I decided to try the solar trickle charger to see if it would solve my problem. We just had a stretch of cold weather. This morning it was -13° F and warmed up to -5° F. so I decided to test the battery by starting the truck. It didn’t start right up but the battery kept spinning the engine until it started. I am impressed!Things I like about the charger: 1) It works; 2) I had considered an electric trickle charger but that would have to be plugged in and use electricity. The solar panel sits in the front window of the truck and is continually charging the battery as long as there is sunshine. I just unplug it when I use the truck; 3) I have the charger inside the truck attached to the front window with the suction cups that come with the unit and it charges without any problems. I don’t have to put it on the outside of the truck; and 4) it is an ingenious solution to my problem. I am pleased with my purchase!

Parked my boat for the winter almost 2 months ago. But I hesitated on adding a port for the charger.My boat sat for weeks and the battery dropped to 12.1v… probably from my bilge running during the rain.I put this solar charger on it and it brought me back up to 12.4v in 2 days (I tested after I unplugged the charger in the evening).So, I can say this not only maintains, but will improve battery voltage. Even with trees blocking sunlight most of the day and winters southern sun.It comes with multiple plugs. A solid plastic rubber casing with any number of ways to hook or hang it onto a boat or car.I might but a 2nd for my tractor but we’ll see.

I mounted the unit permanently on the southern facing exterior wall of our storage shed. The charging cable is routed through the wall and is long enough to reach both my atv and rough cut brush mower batteries when necessary. This unit is very efficient at keeping the batteries topped off and ready to go. The only small improvement I can think of and it’s not a huge problem is that the charging wires could be a little heavier gauge wire. Time will tell how well they hold up. But for now I’m very pleased with the purchase.

Charges well, happy customer
According to my truck gauges, this charges my battery up to almost 17V instead of the 15V alternators put out. The overcharge doesn’t wreck anything, it gives me a bit more starter power and my alternator doesn’t have to play catch-up. One of my parked trucks has no cigarette lighter connection without the key, but works great in my car and old pickup.

Instructions are sketchy but a good product
The instructions are a little misleading for this item. When you connect the solar panel to the battery, it will briefly show a green led, then it shows a red led until your battery is fully charged then the led turns green. The instructions lead you to believe that if the led shows red, you haven’t connected the solar panel correctly. For a large capacity battery charging to full capacitycan take days. I have a 60ah battery and it took 5 days. All in all though this is a good charger and keeps your battery charged when you don’t use your car frequently and don’t have access to electricity to charge.
